Dynamic Tonometer for Detection of Glaucoma
The dynamic tonometer is a novel concept aiming to remove intra-patient changes. The design was inspired by the inaccuracies and inaccessibility of certain modern tonometers and the potential risks as a direct cause of it.
My work in the project was to further the design of the device and the previous test rig. This included prototyping the initial design then improving it and instrumentation for the test rig.
The deliverables of the project were a prototype tonometer with a built-in load cell with a mechanical eyeball for testing equipped with a pressure gauge.
Skills Used
Electronic Design
The project started with designing an improved electronics systems left behind by the previous year. Producing the electronic systems for the load cell as well as the pressure gauge. This included speccing and sourcing the right components and building the whole system.
Mechanical Testing
Making use of a previously-produced mechanical eyeball for testing, performance data was collected for the dynamic tonometer. The testing was carried out to validate the capabilities of the dynamic tonometer and the new electrical systems developed.
Data Analysis
The data collected in the testing phase was analysed to draw a conclusion on the performance of the dynamic tonometer as a whole. This proved the concept of the dynamic tonometer for future development.
