Bone Plate for Fracture Fixation
A bone plate was designed to aid in the healing of a fracture on the proximal phalange of the little finger. Segmented models of the fracture was provided and solutions were derived from there.
The bone plate was produced from scratch forming to the patientβs fracture to make it patient-specific. The design was made to provide high-strength as well as a number of bone screw inserts for surgery flexibility.
Skills Used
Medical Device Design
Using just the fracture models, the patient-specific bone plate was designed with the engineering specifications in mind. Improvements were made on the industry-standard to provide a better solution for fracture fixation.
Medical Device Testing
The designed produced was put through Finite Element Analysis (FEA), comparing its performance to the industry standard. The new design provided an improved strength and would lead to better surgery conditions and healing rates for the patient.
